The honest alternative: if Hook of Holland itself is the point, sail from Harwich instead; that is the one route that actually lands there.

We found this to be a pleasant and relaxed crossing with a well-timed schedule. It is particularly well suited to travellers with a car, campervan or motorcycle, as onward travel options for foot passengers are somewhat limited from the arrival port.

Onboard experience
The Hull crossing is the classic North Sea overnighter: dinner on board, a night in a proper cabin, and the Dutch coast at breakfast. If your priority is the crossing experience, the two routes are closely matched; it is the arrival port and your own starting point in England that should decide it.

Two ports on the same waterway
From Europoort, Hook of Holland is a short hop around the waterway, roughly 20 minutes by car via the N15 and the Maasdeltatunnel. The beach towns of the South Holland coast line up beyond it, and Rotterdam city centre lies 40 minutes the other way.
By car
From Yorkshire and the North, driving to Harwich adds three-plus hours each way, so taking the Hull boat and driving the last 20 minutes on the Dutch side wins comfortably. Drivers bound for the coast south of the waterway should note the Maasdeltatunnel is toll-free, unlike the small Kiltunnel further inland.
