Ferry from Harwich to Rotterdam
Technically there is no Harwich-Rotterdam ferry; practically, there very much is. Stena Line’s crossing lands at Hook of Holland, which lies within the Rotterdam metropolitan area and is connected to the city by its own metro line. Half an hour after walking off the ship you can be standing under the Markthal. Few “indirect” routes are this direct.

The daytime crossing takes up a large part of the day, but it is often one of the more affordable options available. Budget-friendly cabins are frequently offered, giving you a private space to relax during the journey.

A comfortable overnight crossing on large ferries. The sailing is long enough to get some rest while still arriving in the Netherlands early in the morning. Thanks to excellent rail and public transport connections, it is also a popular choice among foot passengers and cyclists.
Who sails the alternatives
Stena Line operates two sailings a day between Harwich and Hook of Holland: a seven-hour daytime crossing and an overnight sailing with cabins. Cars, campervans, bicycles and foot passengers are all carried.

Onboard experience
This route suits travellers who want a real sea crossing without committing to a full night aboard. The day sailing is long enough for a meal, a nap in a budget cabin and some deck time; the overnight option delivers you to the Rotterdam metro before the morning rush. We have done both and would happily flip a coin.

Around 20 miles from Rotterdam
Rotterdam city centre is around 20 miles from the terminal. Metro line B leaves from beside the gangway and reaches the centre in about 35 minutes; by car it is a similar time via the A20. The Hague and Delft are both closer still, making this a flexible base for the whole Randstad.
By car
Drivers reach the A20 straight from the port and the city in around half an hour. Rotterdam is one of the easier Dutch cities to drive into, with plentiful garage parking, though the weekday morning peak between the Hook and the ring road can add 15 minutes or more.
