Ferry from the UK to Hook of Holland
Hook of Holland is the Netherlands’ most passenger-friendly ferry port, and it has exactly one direct UK connection: Stena Line from Harwich, with a daytime and an overnight sailing all year. What sets it apart is everything around the terminal: a metro into Rotterdam, a beach within walking distance, and the whole Randstad within an hour. Arriving here never feels like being dropped at the edge of an industrial estate.

The daytime crossing takes up a large part of the day, but it is often one of the more affordable options available. Budget-friendly cabins are frequently offered, giving you a private space to relax during the journey.

A comfortable overnight crossing on large ferries. The sailing is long enough to get some rest while still arriving in the Netherlands early in the morning. Thanks to excellent rail and public transport connections, it is also a popular choice among foot passengers and cyclists.
Ferry services from the UK to Hook of Holland
Stena Line sails twice daily from Harwich: a seven-hour daytime crossing and an overnight sailing with cabins, operated by the Stena Britannica and Stena Hollandica. Cars, campervans, bicycles and foot passengers are all carried; both terminals have rail or metro connections.

Onboard experience
Beyond the terminal, Hoek van Holland is a modest seaside town worth an hour of anyone’s time: a broad beach, dunes, and the Maeslantkering storm barrier nearby, one of the largest moving structures on earth. If your sailing home leaves in the evening, the beach is a better waiting room than the terminal.

The Randstad from your arrival port
Metro line B runs from the terminal into Rotterdam in about 35 minutes, with train connections onwards to Delft, The Hague, Utrecht and Amsterdam. Drivers roll straight onto the A20. Even Amsterdam is only around 50 miles; nothing in the western Netherlands is far from this port.
By car
For drivers the appeal is arithmetic: no France, no Belgium, and the Dutch motorway network from the first mile. The A20 connects to the whole country; only the morning rush around Rotterdam and The Hague needs planning around. Dutch motorways are toll-free.

By campervan
Campervan travellers can hardly arrive better: there is a campsite by the beach in Hoek van Holland itself, and the daytime sailing from Harwich frequently carries camper offers. From here the coast road north and the cities inland are equally easy openings.
